At the convention, many Japanese IT companies had their booths set up. Perhaps this is reflective of the future era of the AI? I felt that each company was very active in their recruiting. It seemed as if they became the sponsors for the purpose of recruiting students with high potentials. It’s probably appealing for students to work in a famous company while pursuing research on machine translation. The students at the convention study machine translation but not pursuing a translation career. So it was a little unfortunate that translation companies were not getting much attention.
As I was looking around the booths a little, it seems that companies that offer online services also utilize machine translation and artificial intelligence.
One thing I remember during the after party: a well-known person (not a student) in the machine translation industry mentioned that he only regards translation as “conversion from symbol to symbol”, and that he is not interested in the translation itself.
Above is translation of an article "
言語処理学会に出席した感想ー002 AIの時代を反映しているのか?各社採用がすごい" dated March 19.
Translation is done by Hiroko Matsuda.
